Two of South Africa’s biggest hip hop musicians, Cassper Nyovest and AKA have finally decided to put an end to their 2 year old beef which started on twitter with the two rappers sending shots to one another over iTunes sales.

The beef was officially squashed on at popular Sandton nightclub Taboo, which was the venue for the after party for Cassper Nyovest’s historic #FillUpOrlandoStadium event.

Although we did not see the two hip hop superstars kissing and making up anytime soon, their reconciliation did not catch us by surprise because AKA had hinted at it earlier on in the day by posting a tweet that read “Good Morning! This is the day that the Lord has made. @CassperNyovest this is your day. Good luck and God bless.” The tweet drove twitter abuzz considering the fact that the rivalry between the two rappers had reached dangerous levels with a physical altercation ensuing on one occasion.

AKA and Cassper’s reconciliation is a historic event and a victory not only for hip hop but for South Africa at large because it is a powerful moment that reminds adolescents – more than anybody – to avoid violent behaviour at all costs.

This gigantic step that was taken by the two hip hop heavy weights will definitely play a significant role in ending the cycle of hate and violence that is not only damaging the hip hop culture but society as a whole and the two deserve to be commended for sorting out their differences in the most responsible manner.
